Visa Refusal
What to Do Next with Confidence
It’s important to remember that a refusal doesn’t necessarily mark the end of your journey, it’s a signal that something in your application did not fully meet the UK Visas and Immigration requirements. With a thoughtful review and the right guidance, you may still have options to challenge the decision or strengthen a future application.
When the UK Home Office refuses a visa, you will receive a refusal letter detailing the reasons for the decision and whether you have the right to appeal or request a review. In some cases, depending on the type of visa you applied for and the grounds of the refusal, you may be able to appeal the decision to an immigration tribunal. In other cases, you may instead request an administrative review, which asks the Home Office to reconsider its own decision, or prepare a new application that directly addresses the issues identified.
Time limits are critical
in many situations, you will have only 14 days to lodge an appeal if you are inside the UK, or 28 days if you are outside the UK, so it’s essential to act quickly and understand your rights as soon as you receive the refusal notification.
How Maguire International Can Help
At Maguire International, we specialise in helping applicants through the aftermath of a visa refusal. We begin with a comprehensive analysis of your refusal letter to identify exactly why the Home Office declined your application and how best to address those issues. From there, we work closely with you to determine the most suitable course of action, whether that’s preparing and submitting an appeal, requesting an administrative review, or reapplying with stronger evidence and careful documentation.
Our goal is to give you clarity, confidence, and practical support at a time when the path ahead might feel uncertain. With expert insight into UK immigration policy and meticulous attention to detail, we help you understand your options and take the next step with assurance.

Reviews & Appeals
01
Administrative Review
An Administrative Review allows you to request a reassessment of a Home Office decision where an error may have occurred. A different caseworker reviews the original application without new evidence, focusing solely on accuracy. Available for certain visa categories, it currently costs £80, with decisions typically issued within 28 days.
02
Judicial Review
Judicial Review offers a formal legal route when Administrative Review is unavailable or unsuccessful. Brought before the Upper Tribunal or High Court, it examines whether the Home Office decision was lawful, fair, and procedurally sound. This complex process requires specialist legal representation and strict adherence to court deadlines and procedural standards.
03
Appeal
An appeal allows you to formally challenge a UK visa refusal before the First-tier Tribunal, usually within 28 days if applying from overseas. Availability depends on your specific refusal notice. The process requires demonstrating that the original decision was incorrect, following defined legal procedures and evidential standards within immigration law.
